From Andrew Rahart. RARE seed. Andrew's son, John Rahart reported to me that Myona originally came from an Italian man, Guiseppi, who brought the seed with him when he immigrated to the U.S. in 1909. He grew this variety for decades and refused to share his seeds with others. However, before he died, Guiseppi sold a few plants to Secors Nursery in Ramsey, NJ. where Andrew Rahart, knowing what his neighbor, Guiseppi, had done, purchased the plants for himself and saved the seeds. The name originated when Guiseppi brought his plants to the nursery and was asked what kind of tomato it was, he replied, "it'sa my owna," hence the name Myona. Indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce an abundant amount of medium sized, deep-red with pointy end plum tomatoes that are meaty and flavorful. Great for sauce and canning due to its rich, slightly acidic flavor.
